RISE: A Journey from Vision to Disruption

Hi everyone, Kyle here – one of the four founders of RISE. I’d love to take you behind the scenes to meet my co-founders and share a bit about the journey that brought us to where we are today!

RISE Robotics began as an ambitious, futuristic dream: In 2011, our Chief Technology Officer, Blake Sessions, desired a new human amplifier with a sporting exosuit to give wearers superhuman strength and agility. With encouragement to pursue engineering dreams from a fellow MIT graduate, Arron Acosta, Blake partnered with Arron Acosta, whose understanding of business helped turn machine vision into reality.

Together, they set up shop in a modest Cambridge apartment where the kitchen doubled as a prototyping lab. Their initial work laid the groundwork for a unique approach to power transmission—eventually shifting our focus to an even bigger problem: the inefficiencies in modern hydraulic systems!

By 2012, Toomas Sepp, another MIT graduate, joined as VP of Engineering and helped refine the early prototypes. His knack for problem-solving allowed us to engineer robust and refined machinery based on Blake’s intuitions. Toomas and Blake devised new types of springs and string-based actuators that pursue the problem of energy-dense, lightweight, efficient transmission design.

My journey with RISE began in 2014 when I joined as an Industrial Designer to work closely with Arron on various business development aspects of commercializing new machines. When Arron showed me their prototype for a plastic kevlar-stringed 3D-printed actuator, which could have easily crushed my fingers if I held it incorrectly, I was hooked! I saw the future of machines powered by a new kind of mechanical muscle.

From that moment, I dedicated myself to the next generation of machine design, and RISE will be where it happens.

Over the years, our team has grown from a small group of dreamers into a thriving industrial tech company. Each founder brought unique skills and passions to the table, but what unites us is a shared mission: to move machines faster, quieter, more efficiently, and (significant to my three co-founders, who are engineers!) vastly more efficiently—a very satisfying cause.

We’ve come a long way from that tiny apartment lab in Cambridge. Still, our vision remains as bold as ever: to build superhero-caliber machines and power the shift toward a sustainable, amplified future for us all. Today, we are poised to commercialize the incredible innovation and designs we’ve developed and become a leading robotics technology organization electrifying industrial machines.

If you believe in our vision and potential to build better machines for a better tomorrow, please reserve your investment today and be part of our journey!
