In May of 2014, Rise™ Robotics exhibited their Cyclone Linear Drive technology at the FRC (First Robotics Challenge) event in Boston. To demonstrate the plastic Cyclone drive, the Rise™ Team implemented early Cyclone actuators into an FRC robot chassis to demonstrate powerful and affordable ball tossing abilities. Dean Kamen's eye was caught by Arron's MIT t-shirt riddle and dropped by to investigate this new method of actuation called the Cyclone Drive.
